Discus Awards College Scholarships are annual awards that recognize student leaders on the dance team, drywall hangers supporting Habitat for Humanity, shift leaders at Starbucks, active youth group members, and social media gurus.There are two types of scholarships that students can win through the program: Open Scholarships and Network Scholarships.
Open Scholarships, managed and fulfilled by the Center for Scholarship Administration, are awards that may be applied to the cost of tuition, fees, books, and supplies at any accredited, public or private four-year or two-year college or university, technical college, community college, or vocational school.
Network Scholarships, which can only be redeemed at schools within the Discus Network, represent the guaranteed minimum scholarship amount that students will receive. But this applies only if they are admitted to and attend (as an undergraduate freshman) any of their participating private, non-profit colleges.
Applicants should be specific about their accomplishments in a particular category, and should show the judges their accomplishments in action with photos and videos. The competition will be judged by teachers, guidance counselors, school administrators, and college admissions officers who get to work with hundreds of students each year.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000 - $2,500.
