The scholarship is offered through the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides educational opportunities for students who are interested in a career in the hotel and lodging industry.
In order to apply, hospitality employees must work at least 20 hours per week at a American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) member hotel. They must have at least 12 months of hotel experience. Dependents of hotel employees may also apply.
The American Express Scholarship began in 1994. Since that time, it has awarded scholarships to 267 students, totaling more than $300,000.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000.
