National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program is available to current college students who are in their second year at an accredited four-year college or university. It is for students majoring in oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences, as well as information sciences and teacher education.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0. The scholarship includes a summer internship lasting ten weeks at a NOAA facility along with a stipend to cover housing during the internship.

The Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program was formed in 2005 in honor of retiring Senator Ernest F. Hollings of South Carolina. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage more students to enter the field of oceanic and atmospheric science as researchers or educators. The scholarship also prepares students for public service careers with NOAA and other natural resource and science agencies at the federal, state and local levels of government.

The NOAA Office of Education manages scholarship programs which strengthen the competitiveness of more Americans in science. It also works with the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere to promote environmental education.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $8,000.
