Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program is named after Senator Barry Goldwater and was established in 1986 to help finance the education of undergraduate students pursuing studies in math, science and engineering.

College juniors and seniors may be nominated by their university to be Barry Goldwater Scholars. Four students each year from four-year colleges may be nominated, and two students from a two-year college. The scholarship money may be used for tuition, room and board, books and fees.

Up to 300 Barry Goldwater Scholarships are awarded each year. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens and have at least a B grade average. The foundation will select the most outstanding students from each state. In addition to academic performance, eligible students must demonstrate studies that indicate they are pursuing a career in math, science or engineering.

Barry Goldwater served in the U.S. Senate for 30 years. The scholarship was established in his honor to address the shortage of mathematicians, scientists and engineers and encourage students to pursue careers in these disciplines.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $7,500.
