C-Span's Student Cam

C-Span's Student Cam
C-Span's Student Cam is a national video documentary competition for students around the nation in grades 6-12. The topic can include any issue students feel is important for President Obama to consider. The topic changes yearly. Prizes range anywhere from Honorable Mention to a Grand Prize Winner.

Seventy-five students will be chosen to receive cash prizes. Videos must be between 5 and 8 minutes long and contain original work, although students may include short clips from C-Span programs if they directly relate to the topic. Up to three students per entry may participate in a team entry.

C-Span stands for Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network. It was established in 1979 as a private,
non-profit organization that operates as a public service to cable television, providing 24-hour political and public affairs programming. Funding comes from license fees paid by cable systems and satellite companies that offer the network to their customers. Some of the live programming by C-Span include live coverage of the U.S. House of Representatives, Senate debates and national events.

The C-Span Student Cam competition is divided into Grades 6-8 (Middle School) and grades 9-12 (High School). Students compete within their own categories. Videos are judged by their ability to compellingly address the topic as well as explain why it is of importance.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $250 - $5,000.
