National Youth of the Year Award goes to one outstanding high school student each year in recognition of their outstanding academics, community service, and leadership skills. The National Exchange Club offers this award to honor the achievements of outstanding high school students.
The competition for this award starts at the National Exchange Club local level. Each local club recognizes outstanding youth in their communities with Youth of the Month awards. Local clubs will then select a Youth of the Year at the local level. These entries are judged at the district and finally the national level for the National Youth of the Year Award.
Students must write an essay and the national winner will have their essay published in Exchange Today magazine. The award is very competitive. Students chosen are model citizens as well as students. Their personal attributes, ambition and career goals are an inspiration to other students.
The scholarship is sponsored by the National Exchange Club Foundation (NECF). The non-profit organization, the charitable arm of the National Exchange Club, was established in 1979 and funds child-abuse prevention programs, youth and community service programs of local exchange clubs.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JUNE of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
