The competition is for high school students across the country. Students may enter as an individual or as a team. The TV commercial can be up to 30 seconds in length. Judging is based on the concept of the commercial and its message. Students are not expected to have advanced production skills.
Students must be citizens of the U.S. or Canada. In producing their commercial, they may engage the help of parents, teachers and others for equipment; the content of the commercial must be the student's original concept. The commercial selected as the grand prize winner will be broadcast on TV.
The purpose of the scholarship competition is to increase awareness among middle school students about the dangers of underage drinking. More than 10,000 young people between the ages of 16 to 25 die each year in alcohol related accidents. Courageous Persuaders was formed in 2000 to encourage more students to get involved in this tragic issue and take a stand against underage drinking.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $250 - $3,000.
