ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships For Minorities

ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships
ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarships are open to African American and Hispanic high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM). Four scholarships are awarded each year.

Eligible students must be attending a high school that is in a member district of the Council of the Great City Schools and plan to attend a four-year college or university full time. They are required to have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. All students applying must be of African American or Hispanic/Latino descent.

Scholarships are awarded to two African American and two Hispanic students every spring. The purpose of the scholarship program is to encourage more African American and Hispanic students to consider careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The scholarship program was created by Dr. Bernard Harris, a former astronaut, physician and businessman, and by ExxonMobil in 2010. Dr. Harris is a strong role model for students and a strong supporter of education as the key to progress. The scholarship is administered by the Council of the Great City Schools, a Washington D.C.-based organization that exclusively represents the needs of urban public schools.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
