M. Hildred Blewett Scholarship for Women in Physics

M. Hildred Blewett Scholarship for Women in Physics
M. Hildred Blewett Scholarship for Women in Physics is offered to women who have a passion for physics and a strong dedication to completing their PhD in physics. The scholarship enables women to complete their education and return to a career in physics research.

The scholarship is awarded for one year only but recipients may re-apply for another scholarship up to two years total. The scholarship may be used for tuition and fees, equipment, salary, travel expenses and child care. They must attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada.

To apply, candidates may submit an application online and include a description of their future plans in research, and 1-3 letters of recommendation. Selection of scholarship recipients is based on overall qualifications, significance of research and career status.

The scholarship is made possible by funding from M. Hildred Blewett, a physicist whose career began in the 1940's. At the time, there were very few women in the field of physics, so Hildred Blewett funded a scholarship that would help other women who wanted careers in physics. The scholarship is offered through the American Physical Society, a member-based non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement of physics and the support of physicists worldwide.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JUNE of each year, and the award amount is usually $45,000.
