The Donna Foss Independence Day Essay Scholarship Contest
The Donna Foss Independence Day Essay Scholarship Contest is open to all high school students in grades 9-12. Students may enter by submitting an essay relating to the birth of America.

All students entering essays must be U.S. citizens. The essay must be a minimum of 1500 words. Three winners will be chosen; each receives a scholarship to the college of their choice.

All essays must be the original work of the applicant. Essays will be judged according to how well they address the theme, and creativity, spelling, punctuation, grammar and sentence structure.

Donna (Didi) Foss is the co-founder of the Joe Foss Institute. The Joe Foss Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering public service, patriotism, and an appreciation for the freedoms of citizens in the U.S. Part of the organization's programs includes sending military veterans to high schools to talk to students about freedom in America.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JULY of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
