The George Foreman Tribute Scholarship

George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship
The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship is awarded every year to a journalism student, but eligible students must be currently enrolled in college and have at least one full academic year remaining.

Students must be at least sophomores to apply and must have one year remaining in school at the time of the award. Students may major in any discipline as long as their goal is to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Students may apply by submitting an application online and a cover letter that describes their experiences in journalism. Links to work samples should be included, along with a letter of recommendation from a dean, faculty advisor or intership advisor.

The scholarship began in 2002 by boxing champion, Olympic gold medal winner and entrepreneur/ inventor George Foreman. George admired President Lyndon B. Johnson and his Job Corps program which Foreman claims was a personal lifesaver for himself.

The scholarship is awarded through the Radio Television Digital News Foundation, the charitable arm of the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). RTDNA is the world’s largest professional organization that exclusively serves the interests of the electronic news profession. The foundation provides scholarships and fellowships to up-and-coming early-career electronic journalists.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $6,000.
