The Gates Corporation Scholarship

The Gates Corporation Scholarship
The Gates Corporation Scholarship is open to high school seniors interested in a career in engineering. Candidates are selected from students who have participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition Team.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is a chance for high school students age 9-12 to use their skills in science and technology to build a robot. Students entering the competition design and build their own robot that can perform tasks that will compete against other competitors. Students work on teams and get a taste of real world engineering.

Seniors who participate in the competition may apply for a scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to one student and is renewable for all four years of college. The scholarship is funded by the Gates Corporation, a global industrial company headquartered in Denver, Colorado, that provides engineering products and services that advance power transmission and fluid transfer.

FIRST is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering a passion for science, engineering, technology and mathematics within students. The company was founded by an inventor himself, Dean Kamen. The annual competition draws more than 300,000 students from 70 countries.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $4,000.
