eQuality Scholarship for High School Seniors

eQuality Scholarship for High School Seniors
eQuality Scholarship for High School Seniors is available to high school seniors who are graduating from high schools in northern or central California and who actively promote the understanding of and equality for the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community.

Applicants must plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution/college, university, or vocational/trade school in the United States. They must be first-time college students. The purpose of the scholarship is to honor and encourage California students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender community.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, service to the LGBTQ community, and hardship or special circumstances. Scholarships include scholarships for high school graduates, community college transfer students, nursing and medical school scholarships. Up to 17 scholarships will be awarded.

The scholarships are offered by eQuality, a non-profit organization consisting of individuals and organizations based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization was formed in 1989 as a scholarship program by Pacific Gas and Electric Company's lesbian and gay employee group, now PG&E PrideNetwork. Since it's beginning, eQuality has awarded over 260 scholarships totaling more than $815,000.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $12,000.
