Selby Scholarship

Selby Scholarship
The Selby Scholarship is available to high school students graduating from a high school in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte or DeSoto counties, Florida. Applicants must demonstrate financial need.

Candidates are required to have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. All applicants must plan to either enter a four-year degree program at an accredited college or be current students at Manatee Community College who will go on to pursue a four-year degree. Applicants will be evaluated according to their academic credentials, financial need, school and/or community activities or work history (work necessary to support themselves and their family).

Applicants must be full-time students in order to be eligible for a scholarship. Scholarship recipients may re-apply each year for four years for renewable scholarship money. The scholarship program requires its recipients to attend the annual Selby Scholar Symposium held in Sarasota each year. This event connects students with community leaders in their field of study so they can learn more about their career options,

The Selby Scholarship was established by Sarasota residents and philanthropists William G. and Marie Selby in 1955. The Selby Foundation was established to provide ongoing grants to the local community and college scholarships to support education for youth who otherwise would not have an opportunity to go to college.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $7,000.
