The scholarship is based on academics and financial need. It is renewable up to four years of school. The amount awarded is dependent on financial need and number of years in school. All applicants must be U.S. citizens and have lived in Texas for at least 12 months prior to applying for the scholarship.
The scholarship program was established by Mrs. Irene S. Wischer in 2007. Mrs. Wischer resided in San Antonio where she was a respected businesswoman and philanthropist. It was her goal to establish a foundation to help outstanding Texas students attend college. One important criteria was that each candidate be a Christian who attends church regularly.
The scholarship is managed through Frost Bank on Mrs. Wischer's behalf.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $11,000.
