The Nashville Songwriting Scholarship

The Nashville Songwriting Scholarship

The Nashville Songwriting Scholarship is open to all aspiring country music songwriters nationwide. The annual competition consists of creating the best original song in any one of several select song categories.

Eligible candidates must be full-time or part-time students attending a U.S. college or university. They must be between the ages of 17-24. One scholarship will be awarded to the best original song in one of the following categories: Americana, blues, bluegrass, contemporary Christian, country, folk, and roots.

Applicants must submit original work only which can be from one individual or a joint or co-written song. Entries must be submitted as a MP3 or MP4a file; lyrics must be submitted as a PDF. Only one entry per person is allowed.

The scholarship is sponsored by the BMI Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering music education and performance. The non-profit is located in New York and is supported by donations from songwriters, composers, and publishers, BMI employees, and members of the public with a strong interest in music.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
