AQHA Scholarships

AQHA Scholarships
AQHA Scholarships are open to students who are members of the American Quarter Horse Association. Candidates may be pursuing careers in animal science, journalism, communications, therapeutic/adaptive riding and veterinary medicine, or a career path of their choice.

Students must have been members of The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) for at least one year. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need and Quarter Horse involvement.

Several different scholarships are offered, ranging from one-year to four-year scholarships. Applicants must be full-time students with a GPA of 2.5 to 3.0. General scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Other specific scholarships may stipulate GPA, field of study, and when candidates may apply.

Eligible students may apply online by completing an application and including grade transcripts, financial information to determine need, and three letters of reference from someone 21 years of age or older who is not the applicant’s legal guardian, relative, or AQHA staff member. They must also include proof of AQHA membership.

The American Quarter Horse Association, located in Amarillo, Texas, is the world’s largest equine breed registry and membership organization. Through the organization's foundation, scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students who have a passion for quarter horses. Since its beginning in 1976, the American Quarter Horse Foundation scholarship fund has made over 1,200 dreams come true by providing over $6.7 million in financial assistance to youth pursing higher education.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in DECEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $45,000.
