HBO Writing and Directing Fellowships For Minorities and Women


HBO Writing and Directing Fellowships are open to writers and directors 21 and older. The fellowships include master classes at HBO's Santa Monica campus, followed by an 8-month development program.

Candidates must be able to work in the U.S. Candidates for writing fellowships may apply online by sending a resume, a writing sample, a completed release form and a personal essay in 500 words or less explaining what has influenced their storytelling.

Following master classes at HBO's Santa Monica campus, recipients will spend 8 months in writing and script development, guided by an HBO development executive.

The directing fellowship is for applicants who identify as Asian Pacific American, Sub-Continent Asian Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and women. Candidates for directing fellowships may also apply online by submitting an online application, an essay that relates how diversity has been an advantage, resume, and one narrative directing sample.

HBOAccess is a program that gives project development, mentorship, and master classes to diverse directors and to writers. At the end of the four-week session in June, filmmakers will be given a budget to create short form content for HBO.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount VARIES.
