The Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship

The Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship is open to students who graduate from a Pittsburgh Public High School or one of its charter high schools. Applicants must be residents of the City of Pittsburgh continuously since at least the beginning of 9th grade and have been enrolled in the Pittsburgh Public School district continuously since at least the beginning of 9th grade.

Scholarship recipients must graduate with a minimum cumulative  GPA of 2.5. They must also have a minimum attendance record of 90%. Scholarships are awarded on a sliding scale that awards longevity in the Pittsburgh Public School District. So, a student who have continuous enrollment and residency since kindergarten would receive the maximum scholarship amount.

Scholarship funds may be used to attend any accredited post-secondary institution in Pennsylvania and applies to undergraduate students only. Candidates may attend 4-year private or public colleges and universities, 2-year college programs, or trade and technical schools.

The Pittsburgh Promise is an organized effort to send all eligible urban youth to college or trade school with a scholarship. The organization is raising $250 million to invest in the future of young people in Pittsburgh to prepare them for successful and meaningful lives.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $30,000 - $40,000.
