Jeanette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund For Low Income Women

The Jeannette Rankin Women's Scholarship Fund awards scholarships every year to low-income women who are 35 years of age or older. Named after Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress, the fund has awarded over $1.8 million in scholarships to over 700 women since 1978.

Aiming to assist women who have a vision of how their education will benefit themselves, their families and their communities, the fund requires applicants to be in an undergraduate or vocational training program. In addition, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States, and must meet the maximum net household income guidelines.

Factors that are considered for each applicant include their goals, their plan for reaching their goals, challenges they may have faced, their financial situation, and more. When selecting recipients, the program does not give attention to race, creed, religion, color, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, or physical disability.

Recipients must use the scholarship funds to pay for school expenses, such as books, transportation, child care, utilities and living expenses. Feedback from many scholars shows that this unrestricted financial aid helps them where they need it the most.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually up to $2,000.
