AQHA Scholarships

AQHA Scholarships
AQHA Scholarships are open to students who are members of the American Quarter Horse Association. Candidates may be pursuing careers in animal science, journalism, communications, therapeutic/adaptive riding and veterinary medicine, or a career path of their choice.

Students must have been members of The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) for at least one year. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, financial need and Quarter Horse involvement.

Carole Simpson Scholarship was established to help minority students overcome obstacles in their career path in electronic journalism. The scholarship is open to college students who will be sophomores, juniors or seniors and are pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism.

Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in an accredited college or university and be in good standing at their institution. Their application must include a cover letter that describes their current and past journalism experience, why they chose a career in journalism, and how they intend to use their scholarship funds.

The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation Scholarship for the Advancement of Women in Sports & Entertainment is open to women pursuing a degree in Communication Studies, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Studies or Journalism. Undergraduate and graduate school women may apply.

Candidates must be females residing in the U.S. and enrolled full time at a four-year accredited university. Eligible fields of study include Public Relations, Communication, Media Studies, Marketing or Journalism major with a desire to work in the entertainment or sports industry. Applicants must also be able to demonstrate financial need.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Scholarships

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Scholarships
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Scholarships are awarded to outstanding high school seniors who intend to pursue a baccalaureate degree in communications with emphasis on any aspect of the television industry.

The awards are funded by the NATAS foundation. Five scholarships are available.

Aziz Jamaluddin Scholarship

Aziz Jamaluddin Scholarship
Aziz Jamaluddin Scholarship is open to Muslin students pursuing degrees in journalism or political science. Ten scholarships are awarded every year.

The scholarship is possible through a family fund that was established to support five students each year throughout their education in the fields of Journalism and Political Science. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and major in Journalism or Political science at an accredited U.S. institution. All applicants must be American citizens or permanent residents.

The Judy Corman Memorial Scholarship

The Judy Corman Memorial Scholarship open to college students interested in a career in public relations. Applicants must be majoring or (for high school seniors) declaring a major in a communications-related field. The scholarship includes a paid summer internship at the company's New York City headquarters.

Applicable majors include advertising, broadcasting, communications, English, film, journalism, marketing, new media, or public relations. Candidates must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or above. One scholarship is awarded every year.

New York Women in Communications Inc. Foundation Scholarship Program

New York Women in Communications Inc. Foundation Scholarship Program is open to women who are high school seniors and permanent residents of NY, NJ, CT or PA, and also attend a high school in one of these states. Applicants must major in a communications-related field.

Candidates may major in advertising, broadcasting, communications, English, film, journalism, marketing, new media, public relations and other majors relating to the field of communications. A GPA of 3.2 or higher is required. They must also demonstrate need and a strong commitment and involvement in the field of communications.

Islamic Scholarship Fund

Islamic Scholarship Fund is for students who are enrolled in an accredited college or university in the U.S. and who are Muslin or active members of the Muslin community. Up to 45 scholarships will be awarded.

Applicants must major in one of the following fields: Film, media, journalism, writing, law, political science, public administration, and international studies. They may also major in history, sociology, and religious studies if the concentration is on Muslim communities or social justice.

Mitchell S. Jackson Scholarship for Writers of Color

Mitchell S. Jackson Scholarship for Writers of Color is open to incoming college freshmen of color who are pursuing a degree in writing, journalism, or a related field. At least one scholarship will be awarded.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Students may apply through email only. There is no printed application required, no resumes, letters of recommendation or any other documents. Candidates must complete a 2-3 page essay.

Washington Post Young Journalists Scholarship/ Summer Newsroom Workshop

The Washington Post Young Journalists Scholarship is open to high school seniors in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. It is for students who will be majoring in journalism.

The scholarship is for for D.C. high school seniors only who will be attending an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student. Applicants must be residents of the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia and journalism majors.

Sports Illustrated Campus Rush Scholarship

Sports Illustrated Campus Rush Scholarship is awarded to college students who are pursuing careers in the field of journalism. Three scholarships are awarded every year to outstanding student journalists who served as campus correspondents during their school year.

The scholarships are offered by Sports Illustrated and Finish Line. Students who are eligible for a scholarship are journalist majors who are campus correspondents for Campus Rush, Sports Illustrated's network launched in 2015 to cover college sports. Students are selected from more than 60 schools across the country.

Narrative Prize For Writers

Narrative Prize is an annual prize awarded for the best short story, novel excerpt, poem, or work of literary nonfiction published by a new or emerging writer whose work becomes selected for publishing in Narrative Magazine. Submissions may be made at any time during the year.

Writings can be submitted during the year and can include a short story, novel excerpt, poem, one-act play, graphic story, or nonfiction. Narrative editors will review all writing submitted and select as the winner the best work by a new or emerging writer. Sometimes two writers are selected to share the award if both works are found to be deserving of the prize.

The George Foreman Tribute Scholarship

George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship
The George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship is awarded every year to a journalism student, but eligible students must be currently enrolled in college and have at least one full academic year remaining.

Students must be at least sophomores to apply and must have one year remaining in school at the time of the award. Students may major in any discipline as long as their goal is to pursue a career in electronic journalism. Students may apply by submitting an application online and a cover letter that describes their experiences in journalism. Links to work samples should be included, along with a letter of recommendation from a dean, faculty advisor or intership advisor.

HBO Writing and Directing Fellowships For Minorities and Women

HBO Writing and Directing Fellowships are open to writers and directors 21 and older. The fellowships include master classes at HBO's Santa Monica campus, followed by an 8-month development program.

Candidates must be able to work in the U.S. Candidates for writing fellowships may apply online by sending a resume, a writing sample, a completed release form and a personal essay in 500 words or less explaining what has influenced their storytelling.

The Ed Bradley Scholarship is open to sophomores, juniors or seniors who are pursuing careers in radio, television, or digital journalism. One winner per year is chosen to receive a scholarship and an invitation to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference.

The scholarship was established in 1994 by award-winning journalist and correspondent Ed Bradley. Bradley was the first African American White House TV correspondent and was well known for his 26-year career on CBS News’ 60 Minutes. Candidates must have an excellent academic record and be full-time students in good standing.

National Association of Black Journalists Scholarships

National Association of Black Journalists Scholarships
National Association of Black Journalists Scholarships are offered to students interested in a career in journalism. The scholarship is for high school students and undergraduate college students who are planning to enroll or currently enrolled in college full-time and majoring in journalism.

Applicants must major in journalism, communications, or other disciplines related to a journalism career. Up to eight students are awarded scholarships each year. Students must be members of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

Penguin Random House Creative Writing Competition

Random House Creative Writing Contest

The Penguin Random House Creative Writing Competition is open to high school seniors who are attending a high school in New York City. Scholarships are awarded in the areas of original poetry, memoir, fiction, drama and graphic novel compositions.

Awards include (4) first-place awards, (4) second-place awards, (4) third-place awards, (20) Best Of Borough awards, (15) Artist Recognition awards, and (75) Honorable Mention awards. All applicants must be high school seniors attending a New York City public high school.

The National League of American Pen Women Scholarship Competition

The National League of American Pen Women Scholarship Competition is open to female high school seniors, undergraduate college students, or other college students of any age. It is open to female artists, photographers, writers, instrumentalist musicians and composers.

To enter the competition, applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Each candidate must submit a letter of application that describes their goals and achievements. A letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor is also required, along with work samples. Work samples can include copies of original writing, CDs of music, photos of art, and copies of original music composition.

National Press Club Scholarship for Journalism Diversity is open to high school seniors who are preparing to enter college and major in journalism. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher with a career goal to become a journalist and bring diversity to the field of journalism in the U.S.

This is a very prestigious scholarship offered by The National Press Club, the leading professional organization for journalists. The purpose of the scholarship is to ensure that promising future journalists will bring diversity to American journalism.

The Richard G. Zimmerman Journalism Scholarship

The Richard G. Zimmerman Journalism Scholarship is open to high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in the field of journalism. Eligible students must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university and major in journalism.

Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above in order to apply. The scholarship is a one-time award and not renewable. One scholarship is awarded each year.
