"From Failure to Promise" Essay Scholarship Contest

From Failure to Promise Scholarship Contest
The "From Failure to Promise" Essay Scholarship offers an opportunity for high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students to earn scholarship money by writing a 1,000 word essay. Students will be asked to describe the challenges they have faced in achieving academic success.

The essay is based on the 2010 book, From Failure to Promise: An Uncommon Path to Professoriate, written by Dr. Cleamon Moorer. Dr. Moorer discusses his life as an inner-city youth in Detroit who faced many challenges that led to dropping out of college. Dr. Moorer overcame these obstacles and became an engineer and later a college professor.

Students entering the essay contest need to be familiar with Dr. Moorer's book and answer two questions in the essay: How has the book inspired their pursuit of success, and how will they commit to improving the lives of others. Students must be currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college or university and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

A first-place winner and two runners-up will each receive money for college and a signed copy of Dr. Moorer's book. Applications can be emailed or mailed to the "From Failure to Promise" Scholarship Fund, in care of Dr. Moorer. The scholarship is funded by Dr. C. Moorer & Associates, Inc., founded as a non-profit organization in 2010 to provide scholarships and grants to students and provide mentoring that will help students excel both academically and professionally.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JULY of each year, and the award amount is usually $500 - $10,000.
