Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP)

Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP)
Women's Independence Scholarship Program (WISP) is for women who have been victims of abuse. The scholarship helps them get the education they need to live an independent, self-sufficient life.

The scholarship is for women who are direct survivors of intimate partner abuse. Eligible women must have separated from the abusive partner for at least one year. They may choose to attend a college, university, technical or vocational schools or other accredited educational institutions. Either part-time or full-time attendance is acceptable.

The scholarship is primarily for women who have critical financial need and a desire to complete their undergraduate education. Single mothers with young children are especially encouraged to apply. These women often have the greatest financial challenges and greatest need for an education that will help them learn work skills that will enable them to support themselves and their families.

The Women’s Independence Scholarship Program, Inc. was originally a program of The Sunshine Lady Foundation. However, through a general endowment from Mrs. Warren (Doris) Buffet in 2007, the organization is now an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of domestic violence and helping women pursue an education and economic independence. WISP, Inc. is a private family foundation founded by Doris Buffett.

The deadline for this scholarship VARIES each year, and the award amount VARIES.
