Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship

Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship is open to undergraduate students pursuing studies and training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education.

Eligible undergraduates may study biological, life, and agricultural sciences; physical sciences; mathematics; engineering; computer and information sciences; social and behavioral science; and teacher education.


Candidates must be full-time juniors attending an accredited college or university within the United States or U.S. territories. A GPA of 3.0 or above is required. Applications are available online every September.

The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with scholarship awards for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid internship at a NOAA facility during the summer.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is a scientific agency within the United States Department of Commerce focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. The organization was formed in 1807 and is located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $9,500.
