Upholding Beard's legacy of culinary education and support through the scholarship program is an essential component of the James Beard Foundation's mission. Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or who are already enrolled at least part-time during in a course of study leading to an associate or bachelor's degree at a licensed or accredited culinary school (national or international).
Applicants are required to complete an application, submit high school transcripts, submit a proof of residence, and possibly submit an essay. International students are encouraged to apply.
There are several different scholarship awards with different application processes, but all scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of academic record, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of career and educational aspirations and goals, unusual personal or family circumstances, financial need, and an outside appraisal.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount VARIES.
