The Core Fulbright Scholar Program helps to send nearly 1,000 faculty and professionals abroad each year. Sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, recipients of the scholarship travel to a many different countries to lecture and conduct research on a variety of topics.
Applicants must have U.S. citizenship, must have a Ph.D. or equivalent professional/terminal degree, must have experience teach at college level, and must have sound physical and mental health. To apply, applicants must submit an application, professional reference letters, an invitation letter (depending on the country desired), and a medical report from a licensed doctor.
Applicants can only apply for one country or regional program at a time. However, the application form does provide a place where individuals can express interest in as many as three additional country/regional programs or other awards within the same country.
Applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin and/or physical impairment. Also, since most lecturers will teach in English, knowledge of a foreign language is not required unless you are planning to travel to some countries in Latin American and Africa. Candidates who have resided abroad for five or more consecutive years in a six-year period preceding the date of application are not eligible.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in AUGUST of each year, and the award amount usually VARIES.
