James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund awards scholarships each year to children and grandchildren of members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. One hundred scholarships are awarded annually. Thirty-one are renewable and sixty-nine are one time only.
Eligible students must be U.S. or Canadian citizens and plan to attend full-time a four-year college or university. They must also maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1999 as an independent non-profit organization. Its sole purpose is to raise money that enables them to offer scholarships to children and grandchildren of Teamsters members.
The Teamsters began in 1903 to give middle-class workers more on-the-job health and safety protection as well as retirement benefits. James R. Hoffa became a Teamster member in 1934 and was General President for 14 years.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000 - $10,000.
