Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships are awarded to students who have been active in their communities and made a significant contribution in the fight against childhood hunger in the United States. They must be U.S. citizens and can be in junior high school, high school, college or graduate school.
The number of scholarships varies each year. In addition to scholarship money, students also receive a matching grant in their name to the hunger charity of their choice. Eligible students must have volunteered without pay for community services that support the fight against hunger at least 12 months prior to applying.
The Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships are funded by Sodexo Foundation, a non-profit organization formed in 1999 to help end childhood hunger in America. Sodexo Foundation supports efforts at all levels--local, state and national--that help children and their families. The foundation has given more than $17 million in grants.
The scholarships recognize the efforts of young people who are actively involved in fighting hunger initiatives and encourages students to serve as examples to other youth in leading hunger-fighting causes in their communities. It is named after Stephen J. Brady, founder and former president of the Sodexo Foundation.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in DECEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
