AMA Foundation Minority Scholars Award is specifically for minority students in their first or second year of medical school. Minorities include African American/Black, American Indian, Native Hawaiian, Alaska Native, and Hispanic/Latino.
The AMA Foundation scholarship programs are funded by the American Medical Association Foundation. They are for students enrolled in a U.S. accredited medical school, pursuing a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The medical schools must be those approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). LCME is the nationally recognized accrediting authority for medical education programs leading to the MD degree in the United States and Canada and is sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association.
Students currently enrolled in U.S. accredited medical schools who are pursuing a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) are also eligible for the scholarship. The medical school must be one approved by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.
Eligible applicants must be nominated for the scholarship by their medical school. Nomination materials are sent to the school from the foundation; no direct scholarship application is available on the foundation web site.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
