DreamActivist Scholarships For Undocumented Students

DreamActivist Scholarships For Undocumented Students
DreamActivist Scholarships For Undocumented Students offers scholarship opportunities for illegal immigrant minors to receive financial assistance to attend college in the U.S. It allows immigrant students without papers to qualify for a college scholarship.

The scholarships reflect many of the ideals proposed in the Dream Act, a proposed federal bill on immigration reform that would grant deferment to immigrants who came into the country as children and allow them to remain legally to complete their education as undocumented students.

Although the DREAM Act has not yet been passed, what President Obama did sign into law by executive order was the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). The program authorizes the removal of the illegal status of alien students and gives them a reprieve to remain in the country for education purposes. To qualify, students must be under the age of 35, residents of the U.S. for at least five years, have a high school diploma and have entered the U.S. at age 15 or younger. Students would then have six years in which to complete their education at a U.S. college or university and earn their degree.

Many states have passed their own state legislation allowing students to attend college and receive financial aid funded by taxpayer money and private scholarship support. Two of those states include Maryland and California. California's DREAM Act was announced January 1 of 2013. Maryland passed a similar act in November. is a communication portal for migrant students supporting the DREAM Act and other forms of immigration reform legislation. The social media website is a resource network for migrant students which shares information on scholarships for undocumented students, immigration issues, and other resources.
