Mas Family Scholarships


Mas Family Scholarships offer scholarship awards to both undergraduate and graduate students of Cuban descent. Eligible fields of study include business, communications, economics, engineering, international relations and journalism.

The scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and have a grade point average of 3.5 or above. Applicants will also be required to write a 1,000 word essay on a specified topic. Applications will be judged on academic performance as well as community involvement.

The scholarships are sponsored by the Jorge Mas Canosa Freedom Foundation, a non-profit organization started in 1981 by Jorge Mas Canosa. Jorge dedicated his life to promoting democracy and human rights in Cuba, where he was born. The foundation continues to support the cause of freedom, working with the U.S. government on policies with Cuba and the promotion of democracy.

The Mas Family Scholarships were established to provide educational opportunities for young men and women who were born in Cuba or of Cuban descent. Since 1997, the foundation has enabled more than 100 Cuban students obtain a college education.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
