ALSC Scholarships offer two different scholarship opportunities to college students, graduate students and adult students pursuing a degree in Library Science. Up to six scholarships are awarded each year.
The Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship is for students pursuing a Masters degree in Library Science and want to work with children up to age 14. The Bound to Stay Bound Books (BTSB) Scholarship provides financial assistance to students who plan to pursue an MLS or advanced degree and are interested in working with children in the area of Library Science.
The scholarships are sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) through donations from corporations, librarians and other private donations from people who appreciate the value of books and reading for children.
ALSC is a non-profit organization located in Chicago who works with publishers, libraries, educators and faculty members to ensure the quality of good books for children. The member-based organization partners with over 4,000 professional contacts in the book industry to maintain best practices in childrens' libraries.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $6,000 - $7,000.
