D Wright Way Foundation KB3 Scholarship Program is available to high school seniors planning to enroll in a four-year college or university to pursue a degree. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or above in order to apply.
The scholarship was created in 2010 by Dorell Wright, Golden State Warriors All-Star Forward, and the D Wright Way Foundation. The foundation serves the needs of inner-city youth and communities. The scholarship encourages underserved students to achieve their goals.
The scholarship was formed in memory of Dorell's friend, Khelcey Barrs III, who was also a talented high school basketball player but died from an enlarged heart condition in 2004 when he was a sophomore in high school.
The mission of the foundation is to focus on educational opportunities for inner-city youth who have limited financial resources. The scholarship is intended to help them obtain a higher education degree in spite of the difficulties they face in life.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MAY of each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
