Shop Smart Scholarship awards five scholarships to students who can demonstrate that they have sacrificed and worked hard to be able to afford college. The scholarship competition is open to high school students and undergraduate college students.
In order to apply, students need to write a 500 word essay explaining what steps they took or are taking in order to be able to go to college. One student, for example, sold haircuts to fellow students. Another student bought groceries and supplies using extreme couponing and sold them at a discount to colleagues. Whatever creative methods were used should be described in the essay.
The essay should also include details on their college tuition costs and show how their "shop smart" approach is going to help pay these expenses. Essays will be judged on not only how creative the ideas are but how effective they are in contributing to paying for overall expenses.
The scholarship is being offered for the second year by BradsDeals.com, an online source for discount coupons & deals from thousands of leading retailers.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JUNE of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000.
