The scholarship is for students who are active in sports. This can include a wide variety of sports, such as baseball, basketball, football and hockey; golf, tennis, fencing, rugby and lacrosse; gymnastics, soccer, wrestling, swimming, track and field, volleyball and many, many other sports. Students must document their involvement in high school sports as well as any special awards they have earned.
In addition, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above to be eligible. They must have been involved in volunteer work for their community during their high school years. Nominations need to include a letter of reference from the person nominating the student that explains why they deserve the scholarship.
The scholarship is sponsored by Shut Up & Sweat Athletic Gear, a producer of men's and women's exercise and workout clothing. The company was formed in San Jose, California, in 2010. In addition to encouraging regular exercise with "no excuses," the company is dedicated to supporting the education of young student athletes.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in AUGUST of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000.
