The Christopher Reeve Scholarship Award

Heart of America Foundation's Christopher Reeve Award The Christopher Reeve Award is an annual scholarship for a student who has demonstrated outstanding compassion and caring by serving their community. Applicants are critiqued by The Heart of America Foundation which administers the Christopher Reeve Award. Students who are seniors in high school or younger may apply.

Each year, one student is selected to receive a scholarship funded by Merriam-Webster, Inc. Merriam-Webster has been a key publisher of dictionaries as well as online dictionary information for over 150 years.

The scholarship is named after the late Christopher Reeve, an American actor, film director, producer, and screen writer famous for his role as Superman in the Superman I-IV movies of the 80's. He was later paralyzed in a horse riding accident in 1995 and died in 2004.

Reeve's determination never to give up hope is behind the purpose of the scholarship. The non-profit foundation, established in 1997 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is dedicated to children in need. The organization helps three million children at the poverty level with books and volunteers that provide schools with learning centers.

Past recipients of the Christopher Reeve Award include youth who have accomplished amazing feats with extraordinary results through volunteerism in their communities.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in OCTOBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000.
