AFSA Second Chance Scholarship Contest is open to all students who have a high school diploma or GED, as well as those already enrolled in college. Students must plan to enroll or already be enrolled in a U.S. accredited college, university or trade school.
Eligible students may enter the scholarship contest by taking an open-book test that consists of ten questions. Students will receive one entry into the contest for each correct answer. For example, if they answer all ten questions correctly, they will receive ten entries for a scholarship drawing.
The test is multiple-choice. Students will receive the "Fire Sprinkler Essay" to read and reference to answer the questions. If an answer is incorrect, students receive another chance to answer correctly--thus the name, "Second Chance" Scholarship!
The scholarship is not based on need. Five scholarships will be awarded. It is sponsored by the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), a non-profit, international association representing fire sprinkler contractors all over the world. The organization works with government agencies, and fire protection and safety organizations to communicate fire safety awareness.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in AUGUST of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,000.
