Tessie Eerligh Scharing Memorial Scholarship

Tessie Eerligh Scharing Memorial Scholarship
Tessie Eerligh Scharing Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to one student who shows an outstanding commitment to their church and their community. The student selected will have outstanding academic performance and well as financial need.

Applicants must be members of the Churches of Christ. They must also be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time as an undergraduate student at a four-year liberal arts university.

The scholarship is named in honor of Tessie Eerligh Scharing, an outstanding student who attended school in Norway, where she earned the “Amicus Humani Generis” award from her high school for her academic, athletic and social contributions. She attended Pepperdine University, and then pursued her Masters degree at Rice University. Shortly after, she passed away at the age of 29 from a rare form of ovarian cancer.

The scholarship in her memory rewards the dedication of both men and women who demonstrate the same passion as Tessie for education, church and community. It is sponsored by the Faith & Education Scholarship Fund (FESF) who helps dedicated members in their pursuit of education and supports the efforts of others within the churches of Christ who are dedicated to serving their church and their community.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $25,000.
