Friends of Hampton Roads Scholarship is open to African-American high school seniors from the states of North Carolina and Virginia. Eligible students must plan to attend a four-year college or university.
Eligible students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above. They must reside in the states of North Carolina or Virginia and demonstrate a need for financial assistance in order to be able to attend college.
To apply, eligible students may submit a completed application and a 750-1,000 word essay. They must also submit a high school transcript of grades and SAT scores.
The scholarship is offered by Friends of Hampton Roads, a non-profit organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, that raises money for scholarships for African-American youth. The organization has been able to award $400,000 in scholarships since their beginning.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in APRIL of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000.
