Religious Liberty Essay Scholarship Contest is open to all high school juniors and seniors interested in writing an essay about religious liberty. Three winners will be selected, including third prize, second prize and a grand prize winner.
Each winner receives a cash prize. The grand prize winner will also be awarded a trip for two to Washington, D.C. that includes airfare and accommodations. Essays will be judged on content, how well the topic is addressed, and writing skill. Each student is encouraged to express their position on the topic and be able to support it.
The contest is held each year, with a different topic for essays every year. The essay topics foster thinking by high school students on church-state issues and encourages them to express their thoughts on a religious liberty topic.
The scholarship contest is sponsored by the Religious Liberty Council of the Baptist Joint Committee. The Religious Liberty Essay Scholarship Contest began in 2006 and encourages high school students to examine issues pertaining to church and state. The organization is based in Washington, D.C. and works to support religious freedom and to protect the free exercise of religion by all.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in MARCH of each year, and the award amount is usually $250 - $2,000.
