Kelly Lynn Lutz Memorial Scholarship
Kelly Lynn Lutz Memorial Scholarship is designed to help students enrolled in college who have lost a parent before the age of 22 due to cancer. Eligible students may attend either a two-year or four-year college or university.
The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. To qualify, students must have a grade point average of 3.0 and also demonstrate a need for financial assistance in order to be able to attend college. They can major in education, arts, environment, math, or science. They must also show a strong commitment to helping others in their school, community or church.
To apply, students may submit a completed application along with a cover letter about themselves and one reference. Students chosen for a scholarship will have funds paid directly to the college of their choice.
The scholarship is named after Kelly Lynn Lutz, a teacher, mother and strong supporter of her community in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Kelly lost her long battle to breast cancer in 2008. The scholarship fund was established to help other students who also lost a parent to cancer to be able to continue their post-secondary education.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $1,500.
