Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is open to students who are studying abroad. Eligible applicants must be U.S. undergraduate students who demonstrate high financial need.

Financial need must be demonstrated through qualifying for and receiving a Federal Pell Grant. Students must be in a study abroad program at least four weeks before applying for a scholarship. Students may choose to study abroad in any country except Cuba or other areas prohibited by the U.S. Department of State, such as Afghanistan, Syria, North Korea, Iraq, Saudia Arabia and other countries where travel is risky due to unstable governments, wars, crime and violence.

Students may attend any accredited four-year or two-year college, university or community college. Any major area of study is allowed. Students must be U.S. citizens or nationals and currently enrolled in college as an undergraduate. High school seniors and graduate students are not eligible. Scholarships are offered in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

The scholarship is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the U.S. Department of State and is funded through support from an annual Congressional appropriation.

The deadline for this scholarship VARIES each year, and the award amount is usually $5,000.
