To apply, students must submit an application online. Three letters of recommendation are required. Eligible students may major in the areas of engineering, health professions, legal professions, and social sciences. They must plan to attend a four-year accredited college or university anywhere in the U.S.

The scholarship is sponsored by Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, a non-profit organization in San Diego County, California, serving the needs of youth. Their organization helps with after-school programs, youth sports, day camps and many other activities involving youth.
