The scholarship was named in honor of Gary Yoshimura, a leader in public relations who passed away in 2000 at the age of 42. Gary contributed his knowledge and expertise to agencies such as Hill and Knowlton; Manning, Selvage & Lee; Burson-Marsteller; and Stoorza, Zieghaus and Metzger.
