HP Scholarship for Women Studying Information Security (SWSIS) Program is a new scholarship fund designed to support women studying the theory and practice of cybersecurity. In addition to the scholarship, recipients will have an opportunity to intern at HP.
Applications will be accepted during the spring, and scholarships will be awarded in the fall. Applicants must be women with high academic credentials who have a strong interest in a career in the field of information security. More than 60 accredited universities so far are offering HP’s program, including the University of California Berkeley, the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
The SWSIS scholarship program is the result of a partnership with HP, the Applied Computer Security Associates (ACSA), and the Computer Research Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research (CRA-W). Candidates may apply through their college or university and will need to include a cover letter explaining their interest in the field of information security. A transcript and a statement of their current educational status are also required. Candidates will be chosen by CRA-W.
The purpose of the scholarship is to increase the amount of talent needed within the information security field, and to encourage more women in IT to pursue careers in information security.
The deadline for this scholarship VARIES each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000 - $20,000.
