Every year since 2009, the scholarship competition enables students from many colleges and universities across the country to earn money for college. Since its beginning, more than 1,500 college students from more than 100 different colleges and universities have participated in the program.
The competition last 11 weeks from September to November. Applicants are given assignments that include a specific social media venue, or a specific aspect of the agriculture community. They utilize that social media to blog about issues pertaining to agriculture. Participants are prepared by attending webinars and tweet-ups where agriculture industry experts educate students on what are the important issues and how it needs to be communicated.
The Animal Agriculture Alliance was founded in 1987 and is the oldest coalition representing agriculture-related businesses such as farmers, ranchers, producer organizations, suppliers, packer-processors, scientists, veterinarians and retailers. They are headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in SEPTEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $2,500.
