Bart Kamen Memorial FIRST Scholarship provides funding for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in biomedical engineering or pre-medical. Students applying must have successfully participated in one of the FIRST family of programs for at least one year.
The FIRST family of programs is a progressive series of programs for students age 6-18 offered by non-profit organization FIRST to help more young people discover and develop a passion for science, engineering, technology, and mathematics. Four Bart Kamen Memorial FIRST Scholarships will be awarded.
Eligible candidates must be attending college for the first time, and must be accepted to enroll full-time at a four-year accredited college or university in the U.S. To apply, students may complete an online application and include an official secondary school grade transcript, along with two recommendations, one from a teacher or guidance counselor and one from an adult coach or mentor on the candidate's FIRST team.
The scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Barton Aron Kamen, a distinguished pediatric oncologist and cancer pharmacologist who devoted his life to improving the lives of his patients. The scholarship awards outstanding students who have the same passion as Dr. Kamen and a desire to pursue the study of biomedical engineering and/or pre-medical studies.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in FEBRUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
