SMART Scholarship program is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or are awaiting admission. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time accredited program leading to a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Scholarships are full scholarships that pay full tuition and education-related fees.
The scholarship program also includes health insurance, an allowance for school supplies, mentoring and job placement after graduation. Scholarship recipients must be willing to also participate in a summer research internship.
The scholarship is sponsored by the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Program established by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The purpose of the scholarship is to increase scientists and engineers at DoD laboratories.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in DECEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $25,000 - $38,000.
