The United States Senate Youth Program is open to outstanding high school students interested in pursuing careers in public service. High school juniors and seniors may apply.
The unique program combines a scholarship, along with an intensive week-long educational experience in Washington, D.C., where students receive an in-depth view of the Senate and the federal government. The program is for exceptional students, and candidates are selected by state officials. Interested students may apply through their high school principals, guidance counselors and social studies teachers; they may also apply through state-level official web sites.
The United States Senate Youth Program began in 1962 as a way to help increase knowledge of the federal government among young people. Two high school juniors or seniors are selected each year from each state. The scholarship may be used for any college or university of their choice.
In addition to the scholarship, the week-long educational experience in Washington, D.C. is fully funded by the USSYP, including transportation, accommodations, and meals.
The deadline for this scholarship is usually in DECEMBER of each year, and the award amount is usually $10,000.
