Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. Eligible students must plan to enroll as a full-time student in a degree program at N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC-Greensboro.

Eligible students must reside and attend high school in one of 14 school districts: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain, or Warren. One scholarship will be awarded to a student from the areas of Greensboro and High Point and at the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics.

Students must have, and maintain, a GPA of 2.75. The value of the scholarship provides for an award of about one-half the cost of an undergraduate education and can be renewed as long as the recipient maintains the required GPA. Brooks Scholars may also receive additional funding for summer internships, research or travel abroad, and a one-time computer stipend of $2,500.

Aubrey Lee Brooks scholarships were established in 1955 by a Trust endowed by the late Aubrey Lee Brooks. Aubrey Lee Brooks was a lawyer, politician, and author, who completed his law course at UNC. He had a brilliant legal career and established the Brooks Scholarship Fund (in excess of $1 million) for worthy students from the old Fifth Congressional District.

The deadline for this scholarship is usually in JANUARY of each year, and the award amount is usually $12,000.
